Position Summary

The Instrument room case cart aide is responsible for knowing supply inventory in the Case Cart area. He/she is responsible for care, handling, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments.


Education/Experience

• High school education preferred.
• Previous experience in Central Supplies
• Certified as a Central Service Technician or Surgical Tech is desired



Special Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/Licenses

• Basic knowledge of computer system including ORMIS Supply Module.
• Product knowledge related to health care.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and detail oriented.

We are looking for team members to support our growing services, with opportunities to provide patient care in our three Surgery Centers. The qualified candidate is willing to rotate between 2-3 of our Surgery Centers, flexing with the growth and variability of our services.

We have a fast paced Multi-Specialty Surgical Center, servicing 9 different Surgical Specialties in Burnsville.

Spec, Certified Surgical Instrument Room Tech

FTE: 0.8 - 1.0 Flex Position

Responsible and accountable for functions of the Sterile Processing Department under the guidance of the Sterile Processing Department Supervisor.

This position is responsible for working independently and with the team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation is properly handled

Experience Requirement:

Sterile Processing program certification with hands-on clinical experience and 1 year sterile processing experience required.

Surgical Tech experience preferred

Endoscopy experience helpful

Certification Requirement:

The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD or IAHCSMM.

Word processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills – verbal and written.

Operating Room Sterile Processing Technician

Summary:  Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment. Maintain inventory as directed by the Operating Room Manager.

Description:  The OR Team is why our patients travel tens and hundreds of miles to see us. The OR Sterilizing team are there to ensure Mercy Ships can provide safe surgeries in clean spaces with sterile tools.

The Operating Room Sterile Processing Technician volunteer position, part of the Sterile Processing team in the OR Department, will be located on the Africa Mercy and Global Mercy, the world's largest non-governmental hospital ships. The preferred minimum commitment for this role is six weeks. We recommend all interested applicants to submit an application at least six months in advance of your target service date. Commitments longer than twelve months require successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program

Qualifications required:

  • Current active Central Sterilizer Technician License (or international equivalent) in home country desired, but not mandatory

  • Minimum two years of experience within a central sterilizing department, hospital-based or day surgical center 

  • Previous experience with sterile supplies and knowledge of universal precautions required

  • Scrub Technicians and Nurses are eligible to work in the sterilizing department if a minimum of two years experience is met

  • Oral and written fluency in English

  • Lift 30 lbs. to shoulder

  • Clean ceiling, floors, and walls

  • Able to stand for long periods for time

  • Able to work in a fast paced, noisy, and hot environment

  • Able to respond quickly to the needs of the operating rooms

  • Able to work cross culturally

  • Able to be exposed to a variety of chemicals/not chemical sensitivity
